FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yoga FAQs

  • For your comfort, we recommend wearing lightweight exercise clothing that you can sweat in. T-shirts and capris or regular workout clothes all work well for women, and men can wear exercise shorts or swim trunks with an optional T-shirt. Remember some classes you will be sweating more than others. The studio has men’s and women’s bathrooms with showers.

  • You should bring water, a mat, and a large towel. For your convenience, we have these items available for rent or purchase at the studio.

  • Yes!  All of our classes are suitable for beginners, yet challenging enough for advanced practitioners. Anyone of any size, shape, condition, or background can do the variety of yoga offered at Above and Beyond Yoga and Salt Therapy.

  • Perfect! The most common misconception that prevents people from coming to yoga practice is that you need to be flexible. Yoga is not about how flexible you are today; it’s about increasing your flexibility to protect your mobility for the future.

  • Some classes offered are heated to some degree. The room is heated to warm the muscles to help prevent injuries and to allow a deeper workout. Sweating is a side benefit because it cleanses the body by flushing toxins through the skin. Heat helps increase circulation to tissues and organs and enhances the functioning of the immune system producing a greater healing influence on the entire body. We closely manage both the heat and the humidity in our studio. We also offer Yoga Therapy, Gentle Flow, and Restorative classes that are non-heated classes for those who want to practice yoga without the addition of heat.

  • The studio opens 30 minutes before each class. Newbies must arrive at least 15-30 minutes in advance in order to fill out paperwork and have a quick orientation. Arriving early allows you to meet the instructor, get oriented to the studio, relax on your mat, and be present before class. Studio doors are locked 3 minutes before class starts, and late students are not admitted.

  • Absolutely not, yoga is a philosophy. However, if you are practicing a religion, yoga may deepen your experience of it.

  • Yoga can be a cardio workout, depending on the type of yoga. Some class types, such as Pure Power are more vigorous and involve a lot of movement, which can raise your heart rate and burn calories. Other types of yoga, such as Yoga Therapy, Yin, and Restorative, are more gentle and focus on flexibility, range of motion, and relaxation.

No matter what type of yoga you choose, it's important to challenge yourself but not be too strenuous. You should always listen to your body and take breaks when you need them.

  • We recommend you either refrain from eating or eat very lightly two hours before class and hydrate well throughout the day, as well as before and after class.

  • Absolutely! We have formed an encouraging environment in which all levels and abilities can practice yoga. We encourage beginners to pace themselves in class and recommend beginners commit to coming to 3 to 4 classes in the first week. This will build a solid physical base and awareness that will improve strength, focus, endurance, and flexibility.

  • As a beginner, it takes about 3 classes for your body and mind to understand the postures. During the next 10 classes, digestion and respiration, as well as endocrine, lymphatic, and elimination systems will begin to work harmoniously. Your appetite will normalize and unhealthy cravings will diminish. All of these results will help to normalize your weight if you devote yourself to regular practice at least, but preferably more than, 3 times per week. Unlike sports and other types of exercise, yoga is difficult to overdo. The more often you come, the greater the benefits. Daily practice rejuvenates the body, mind, and spirit.

Salt Therapy FAQs

  • Our beautiful salt room allows for dry salt therapy to be experienced alone or in a group setting. This room simulates the environment of a therapeutic salt cave, with over 6000 pounds of pink Himalayan salt covering the walls and floor to calm the mind and body. A salt room session lasts for 40 minutes and requires no more than lying back in a comfortable leather recliner and breathing deeply. Micro particles of salt are dispersed into the room by the halogenerator while you relax, read, listen to music, sleep, or meditate.

  • Comfortable clothing is recommended for the salt room. You may change into clothing that exposes areas of skin you would like the salt to reach (shorts, sleeveless shirts, skirts, etc.). We will also provide you with foot coverings to be worn at all times while inside the salt room.

  • Since dry salt therapy is 100% natural and drug-free, there are no negative side effects. After sessions, you may experience a slight cough, minor tightness in the chest, or runny nose, but this is simply the salt doing its work to remove mucus and toxins from the lungs and airways.

  • - Depending on the age and stage of your condition, 20-30 sessions are recommended for long-term results.
    - The sessions should be frequent; about two or three a week is suggested.
    - For irreversible conditions, two to three-month follow-up sessions are recommended to maintain the clear lungs.

In most patients, after a course of dry salt therapy, airways become normal and symptoms disappear. The treatment’s efficacy is estimated at 75-98%. Most clients do 1-2 Salt Therapy courses a year. In between they might come back for some top-up sessions, if they start to feel poorly, e.g. they are coming down with a cold.

  • Yes. Dry salt therapy is a completely drug-free treatment for children and adults. Children as young as 3 months have benefitted greatly and respond quickly and effectively to Halotherapy. Children are more prone to respiratory problems because they pick up more viruses and their lungs are not fully developed until about the age of 9. In addition, the environment is filled with pollutants which children have a harder time keeping at bay.

  • Yes. Dry salt therapy is a great choice for women who do not want to rely heavily on over-the-counter or prescribed medication for sinusitis, asthma, allergies, and other respiratory illnesses. Pregnant women who have come for salt therapy have experienced relief for their congestion and chronic respiratory problems. In addition, the ionized salt particles help boost their immune system.

  • No. Dry salt therapy should be used as a complementary treatment. People who come to the Above and Beyond Salt Room often find that they can reduce their dependence on certain medications and that their episodes are not as frequent or severe. However, you should always follow your doctor’s advice and your prescribed medication regimen.

  • Wet salt therapy is a use of a saline solution that is evaporated into the air and breathed in by clients or used as a method of nasal irrigation. Wet salt only reaches the upper airways and sticks to the nose and mouth, not reaching the throat or the deepest part of the lungs and sinuses. This reduces the salt’s ‘phlegm dissolving’ properties because it does not get to the places where the salt’s effect would be most needed- in the deepest part of your lungs. This is why spending a few days on the beach is less effective than an hour in a dry aerosol salt room. With our Dry Salt Technology not only is the salt concentration of the air in the salt room ideal for all clients, but the particle sizes are also calculated to make the therapy as beneficial as possible to everyone whether they are suffering from a skin condition or a disease that affects the deepest part of the lungs.

  • Salt naturally absorbs bacteria. The walls and floor of the room are covered with salt which creates an almost sterile environment. In addition, our ventilation system works throughout the entire session to circulate the air in the room, exhausting used air out and clean, fresh air in. We also have a probiotic air and surface purification system that continually provides a safe and clean environment inside the salt room.

  • Consuming too much salt through your digestive system is linked to high blood pressure. With salt therapy, you are inhaling a dry salt aerosol which only enters your respiratory system, not your digestion tract. The salt particles are so fine that even if you were to eat that amount it would not pose a risk to your health.
